From the Pit to the Palace: Joseph’s Unshakable Faith in God

In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” This verse encapsulates Joseph’s unwavering faith in God’s sovereign plan, even in the face of betrayal, hardship, and suffering.
Joseph’s life was a journey of trials—sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused in Potiphar’s house, and imprisoned for years. Yet, through it all, he never lost sight of God's faithfulness. Instead of becoming bitter, Joseph chose to trust that every hardship was a stepping stone toward God’s greater purpose.
A.W. Tozer once said, “God never uses anyone greatly until He tests them deeply.” Joseph’s life perfectly illustrates this truth. Before he became a ruler in Egypt, he endured deep trials that tested his character, humility, and trust in God. These trials were not wasted; they refined him for a position of great influence where he could preserve his family and an entire nation during a severe famine.
Had Joseph not suffered betrayal, he would never have been in Egypt. Had he not been falsely accused, he would never have met Pharaoh’s cupbearer. Had he not been forgotten in prison, he would not have been in the right place at the right time to interpret Pharaoh’s dream and be elevated to power. What seemed like a series of misfortunes was, in reality, the unfolding of God’s divine plan.
Joseph’s response to his brothers reveals a heart completely surrendered to God’s will. He saw past the evil intent of men and focused on God's greater purpose. Instead of seeking revenge, he extended forgiveness, recognizing that God was working all things for good.
Like Joseph, we will face trials that test our faith. When we go through difficulties, we can either become bitter or allow God to refine us. If we trust Him, we will see that our pain has a purpose and that what the enemy meant for harm, God can turn into a blessing.
Joseph’s story reminds us that no matter what we face, God is in control. He is always working behind the scenes, using our trials to shape us, strengthen us, and position us for His divine purpose.
